U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer and the Rent-To-Own Reform Act of 2007 - Amends the Consumer Credit Protection Act to prohibit a seller in a rent-to-own transaction from receiving or assessing any interest, finance charge, or other fee for the transaction that exceeds the interest, fees, or finance charges permissible under the laws of the state in which the seller is located which establish:

(1) a maximum rate or amount of interest, finance charge, or time-price differential that may be charged in connection with a credit sale or retail installment sale for the same or a similar item;

(2) the types of fees and the maximum amount of fees that a seller may so charge; or

(3) the types of credit insurance and the maximum amount of premiums that can be charged for credit insurance in such a connection. Permits certain additional termination charges and fees. Cites federal laws which are applicable to a rent-to-own transaction. Sets forth required disclosures, prohibitions, and enforcement, as well as civil liability for failure to properly disclose the terms of a rent-to-own transaction. Declares this Act inapplicable to certain motor vehicles sales and leases otherwise subject to the Truth in Lending Act.

Ok if you rented something to someone and they didnt pay you the days they said they would wouldnt you call and leave them voice mails? i think you would quit complaining about them calling you if you cant afford they payments dont rent it

December, I mentioned i was being induced on the 21st and due to my check not coming in until that day, id be late a payment. (i was always on time NEVER late) I was IN THE HOSPITAL DELIVERING MY SON and i received 4 "FRIENDLY REMINDERS" just that day saying a payment was due.

Yeah talk about your employees are good at documenting...forgot to document that detail and the actual amount of voice mails left. (RAC denied leaving that many because it wasnt documented.) I marched my *** down there and played all 4 of them for the store manager and said "call me a liar again" I have never met a company that has so many people nasty attitudes. MOST RAC employees are horrible at math, they will harass you for money they already received from you, and they will lie about how many times they contacted you and dont pay any attention to what you said. I had $124 left to pay on a $1300 couch set (same as cash 90day) I had to let the suspended money in my account go and i was told that id be covered until NOVEMBER.

August between my mother (co signer) and I we received SIX phone calls in a 2 day period reminding us to pay. The calls yet again were never documented. we were harassed for money already there and over charged. I understand they want their money for their items, its reasonable.

However, the way they go about it is unprofessional.

Ive been a loyal customer since it was RENT TOWN and to have this horrible experience, they just lost me. If they are so concerned about receiving their payments, why not treat customers with respect and understanding and follow their own company policies???

As a former employee I can say the price is on the tag and it is your decision to agree to it and make the agreed payments. I never mislead anyone.

What is bad about Rent a Center is that they "overload" you with more than one product. Then want to pick it up when you had an unexpected bill and had to choose between getting your car fixed and paying them. I had to go into a home and pick up a TV, stove, fridge, bedroom set, living room set.

That house was empty and they should have never been allowed to have that much. Also, FYI, we reused the mattresses we pick up from other people, and half the furniture we got back had roaches.

I will not do any more business with sam levitz furniture in Tucson, az unless they find a new company to finance through. When I financed my furniture I was told my account would be reported to the credit reporting agencies, here it is almost 1 year into it and my credit report shows nothing about rac acceptance.

so I call and they tell me they do not report on anyones credit who purchased after March of 2011 because they used to be TRS and were bought by RAC. well they obviously didnt train their employees properly when they brought them on board from TRS because I was told they would be reporting my account & today when I called to find out why they werent I was told by the manager that I had to bring her my credit report to review... NOT!!! So I asked for a phone number to her corporate office, she put me on hold & then came back on saying they do not report to credit bureaus for anyone and if I was mis informed when I purchased my furniture there was nothing anyone could do about it.

I felt like I was speaking to a child, she was very unprofessional, rude & I am extremely unhappy with them. My voice will be heard and I can guarantee they will lose quite a bit of business since most of my family & friends buy furniture from this sam levitz as well!

Rac sucks and the employees are look as smart as they are. they also get drivers liscence's from cracker jack, haha.

why would anyone pay that much money when you can get the same junk at walmart or kmart on layaway. idiots!

You have no way of knowing how good or bad your customers credit is because you don't use credit checks. Making a summary judgment on a person, based on their appearance or the car they drive, is not very intelligent. And it sure doesn't reflect well on you or the company you represent. I have my reasons for renting furniture rather than charging it to a card, and my credit score has nothing to do with it. So please stop generalizing your customers into one group. That is the height of rudeness -- which just so happens to be the problem most of us take with RAC employees.

I find it funny and ironic that the employees on here sticking up for RAC have the nerve to refer to the customers as ignorant... but can't even use proper grammar or sentence structure. Please come back and defend your company when you can speak as if you're actually educated. You aren't better than your customers and acting as if you are only makes us less likely to return.

Rac is the most mix up company on this planet. They have managers who place the blame on there drivers and drivers who place the blame on the management.

They really think that they can rent something to a customer without the customer getting back nothing at the end. Wake up customers are not going to give you rent money and not get something back.

alot of these complaints sound like bad coworkers at rac not a bad company. even if u guys had good credit which u dont CAUSE U DIDNT PAY ALL UR OTHER BILLS i might add, u use a credit card for a 700 laptop and make minimum pymts ull pay 2500 dollars by time ur done.

and further more if u get a cosumer credit card like lowes or home depot or sears minimum intrest rate is 16.9 percent even higher if ur credit sucks. do the math people ull pay same amount and the dont do any service and if they do it costs u! not with rac we fix for free and een let u use a loaner till its done.

very simple u pay ur bill ontime and be polite to the workers and they will treat u great. old saying goes treat others like u want to be treated and do unto others as u would want done to u thats all im saying.

RAC your missing the big picture. Most of the complaints aren't about the contract they are about rudeness (like being called ignorant ) or bad service.

The complaints about the contract are RAC not sticking to it( won't fix or replace faulty products, selling used for new.) and let's not forget when your payments are almost done they do their best to find something to make you pay longer. Then we have the people that manage to pay something off and get hammered with advertising to make them spend more.

I am a former RAC manager, not motivated to stick up for RAC, but the complaint about the pricing, and RAC "ripping people off" is ***, we are very clear on the contracts, most of the ignorant people we serve, dont even bother to read the contract, but are quick to complain about pricing when they dont have enough money to pay the bill.

okay so me and my husband got a laptop from rac. we have really bad credit the both of us.

and he is the only with a job. well we were in need of a computer. so we thought hey why not rent from rac. well we ended up having to pay more than the laptops worth.

and thats not counting the times we had to pay the next week and they charged us interest also on those late payments. well the one nice thing they did was when he got a pay cut they let his payments be smaller. well i added up how long we'd probably being for and we were paying on it longer. i guess they were charging us interest every month since we didn't pay it off on time.

well the laptop brand new would cost around 700 dollars. depending where u go. it could cost up to even i'm guessing 1000. but thats rare i think.

so on average our laptop cost about 700 brand new. well we ended up paying close 2500 for this one. its paid off now. thank god.

cus i was really getting sick of the payments. well they also gave us this *** about how we have 180 in a suspension acct for if we can't make a payment they can take it out of there. well they ended up putting that on the laptop. well we kept calling them for a few months asking when we'll have it paid off or how much more we have to go.

they kept giving us amounts. well we figured it out to be a month or so til we have it paid completely off. well every time we called it was a different amount and it was some how more. then when we thought we were gonna have it paid off the next week.

cus we called and asked to make sure. they told us we had one week to pay. well we went up to pay it and they told us we still had a few weeks left to pay. and they have this optional liablity waiver thing.

in case the item is damaged or stolen they fix it u just pay a weekly charge or a few dollars. well i talked to my husband about it and said to have them take it so our payments will go down. he called them and asked to be taken off the liability thing. and they told him they would.

well next week rolls around and we're still paying the liability waiver fee. well he called again and told them he called to get taken off it. they claim to have no record of it. so the whole time we were paying for the laptop we had to pay the liability waiver fee also.

and that didn't even go to the laptop. now that its ours, i'm trying to figure out how to get rac off the computer. in the administer thing it says rac and i can't figure out how to get it off to be our names...

ugh... and for all u future renters, let this stories be cautions to you that rac is a bad company to go through..

well i got a playstation 3 for a friend and make payments sometimes i'm late but i make the *** payment now they want to charge extra i had a mex on the phone that could speak good english told me i owed 35 more payment the *** thing should be payed by now but the thing is people with no credit our *** credit try to trust rac and the raped just like i trusted docter to take care of my son and the killed him i have a lawyer in that case and i will get one for rac there not killing me!!!!!!!!!!1
