I was 1 week behind my payment and lost my cell that week. 2 RAC guys actually came to my job and asked for me. They embarrassed me in front of my co-workers and boss stating they were trying to call me 5 or 6 times and leaving messages. I sternly told them I lost my cell and just came back from a death in the family. They asked about my late payment and I told them if they came to my job again asking for money I was going to call the cops ! Felt like a shake down.

I'm sorry for your loss, I know what it's like to take a bite out of the perverbial $hit sandwich, and I am truly sorry.

With that said, I'm guessing you knew you were behind on your payment. Loss of phone or not, I'm sure you had other phones at your disposal (i.e. work, friends, relatives, pay phones) that you could have utilized to contact RAC. Sometimes a little communication goes a long way, but sometimes no matter what you do, if you're late on your payment, they may not work with you.

I do agree that making a personal visit to someone's place of employment is a little extreme. Companies need to learn that if phone calls do not work, then to simply go to the renter's residence (or where ever the items are located) and acquire those items. If the renter is unwilling to give them up, then go throught the legal channels. This will save a lot of bad word-of-mouth advertizing and ensure that people take the company seriously instea of thinking of them like loan shark collectors.

i cant see why they would come to your job for 1 week. did they call first or call your refs? did you know they wanted to speak with you and you blew them off? these kind of thing are what landed you at rac, it only take one call to them to avoid this kind of mess. man up!
