Never Again!

We got a couch love-seat and tv from RAC. We were told that our payments were worked out so that it was all going to be paid off in 90 days. Well we noticed as of today that we have paid a month over our 90 day agreement. Come to find out in order for us to have finished paying them off in the 90 days we would've needed to pay an extra $40(on the last payment of our 90days). So instead of letting us know that, we are now paying double what anything is worth! The people that we talked to were extremely rude and wasnt wanting to tell us any infortmation that we needed to figure this whole thing out! So we are sending it back and NEVER dealing with RAC again!

I agree with Kmas, you gotta pay over the weekly amount & if you go bi-weekly, it actually helps you pay it off quicker, I JUST paid off my TV & Tv Stand a few days shy of my 90 day close date,the KEY is to pay over your minimum & I do agree that they WON'T call you and let you know "hey your 90 days is coming up, you GOTTA be proactive & as far as giving your stuff back, THATS crazy, because someone else can just swoop in & take over your payments & get your couch for cheap, like i did with my TV, LIKE any company they are out to profit, but if you get the billing process & can double up its a great way to have a "lay a way" plan but have use of your item while you pay.

Yeah...this review is probably from not paying attention. You can't go off of the amount per week listed on your agreement, you have to take the same as cash price and split it up by weeks during the 90 days.

What's listed as weekly on your agreement is the minimum payment due each week.

I just paid off a brand new whirpool he washer & dryer from rac within 90 days and paid what I could each week. Pretty awesome if you get it!

Rude manager

I had called rent a center and talked 2 the manager. I told he that we was going 2 b late because we had 2 use the money 2 get my son. His father kidnapped him 3 yrs ago amd his father's girlfriend finally called me 2 go get him. He was 5 hrs away from where we leave. She said it was fine. Next thing I know we got jim home and than we had 2 buy him clothes because school was starting and his father didn't buy him anything. The manager called me and I explained again what happen. She told me the day after the second payment was due that we was 2 weeks late so our account has became a civil matter and if I didn't give them the money or have them come get the stuff than we would b going 2 court. Than she said that if I let them come get the stuff than when I come in that Saturday than I would only have 2 pay them 100 dollars instead of the 340. But I got hurt almost broke my wrist so I came in on Wednesday. I paid the 100 than she told me they would b out 2 deliver our stuff the next day on Thursday. They didn't show up until Saturday at 5:00 that night. So I asked her since I paid the full week and I only got my stuff for 4 days can I put the three days we paid that we didn't have the stuff could I take it off our next bill. She said she couldn't do that. She said since we never paid those days she gets 2 keep the money. But we signed a knew contract so what we didn't get paid shouldn't count on the new contract because we r paying the days we didn't pay but she said she still gets to keep the money than she got rude on how she was looking at meso I walked out. How can she get away with keeping the extra money.

i bought my sons a t.v.,xbox and a new bed for r.a.c.i got the bed about 6 months after the tv and xbox.they told me it would be paid for this august but the bed would be longer.now they are telling me i have 3 more months of payments on the tv and xbox.i called today to make my payment which i knew was due saturday,which was my fault but i worked late and the guy was rude to me and said he called my phone saturday i hung up on him and stated that they didnt want my payment they wantted their stuff.is there anything i can do?im not usually late and never even talked to him saturday.can they refuse payment?also when i got my sons bed i told them the top mattress was bad and it took me asking and calling for three months to get a new one.i am so upset.now they want it back when its almost paid for when im only two days late and wont accept a payment because i supposidley hung up on him.

This company S&^%'s

This company has to have THE WORST customer service in the world. Not only do they HARASS YOU 24/7 about your payments but they have the NERVE to come to your door and demand payment when you are late. And have even more NERVE to involve law enforcement. I WOULD STAY CLEAR OF THESE CROOKS!!! They are liars and thieves. And unfortuantely it seems to be the only way some people can purchase stuff now a days. But i would rather be without then to continue to do business with these *** DONT USE THEM!!! Not worth the headache or time.

I'm sorry, but when you go to a store and purchase things at rent to own....you pay the bill to keep the stuff and lose it if you dont. I'm sure if you owed me money and you weren't paying I'd be going to your door too

People don't have to use the rent-to-own places. They do have choices, either save what you would pay each month until you have enough to go to a furniture store and purchase outright, or else take out a loan to by the stuff.

From what I have heard about these places, what you end up paying in total comes to more than if you took out a loan and paid interest on that. I have also heard that what you end up with isn't as good quality as if you bought from a furniture store. The people that I know that use the rent-to-own places, do so because they want "new" right away. I have also heard that if a person is a little bit late with a payment they do make every effort to collect that payment.

Including coming to your door to collect.

I have never heard of them involving law enforcement, but I have heard of them coming to your door to remove the items you have rented. Basically, it is no different than renting a place to live or paying a mortgage payment.

Rent a Center Harassment

Rent A Center in Albany NY is the absolute worst place in the world. I have called the customer care number and requested call backs over the past 4 months regarding the harassment that I have received from the employees there. They call me before my payment is due even though I have repeatedly asked them not to (they have been doing that since my very first payment and there is no excuse for that). And on my payment due day, they will not only call me 5-6 times from different phone numbers, but they call my references ON THE DUE DATE!!! And don't let my payment be late...the calls double. They are rude, nasty, unprofessional, they smoke in the store, and play very offensive music with a lot of swearing (which is why I usually pay online). They have called and threatened me one time too many. My most recent incident involves me having financial hardships, calling and speaking with the representative and explaining the situation, her telling me that she would note the account and an agreement being reached that if I could n't pay ( I was a week behind and was going to be another week or two) that I would call back. The phone calls did not stop even after they acknowledged that she did put the note in there. When I tried to pay online like I usually did, the system wouldn't let me in to make a payment, I called them and told them that and that if it still wouldn't let me that I would be in to pay for the 3 weeks that I was behind, got my quoted payment amount and things were all set or so I believed. I went in when I got off of work and they closed at 7. They don't have voice mail or anything so the next morning I called again and told them I came to pay them and they were closed and that I would be in that evening to pay. When I got there, they tried to make me pay the amount that was past due,PLUS what was coming due in 5 days. The store manager was very rude to me telling me that he wasn't going to accept my payment for less then his quoted amount, which included what wasn't even due yet. At this point I was confused because I had just spoken with a nice person (FINALLY) and we had everything settled so I told him who I spoke with. He just so happened to still be there so he called him out and he asknowledged that he quoted me the 3 week amount. So then, the store manager got an even nastier attitude with me after rolling his eyes at the employee. Please keep in mind that I had cash in my hand holding it out for over 5 minutes now while he's being nasty and telling me that I was going to pay the past due and what wasn't even due for 5 more days and so I tried again to hand the manager the money and then he want to start asking me questions very nastily about where I work and what hours and when I get paid again. I feel that he shouldn't have been asking me any questions, he should have just taken my money and if he needed any other information he could have looked at my file. They know where I work because they have called me at work repeatedly even after I told them that I can not accept calls at work because I could be terminated for personal calls. I asked him if he was going to take my payment or not because he still hadn't taken the money that I was holding out and then he told me that he didn't like MY attitude and wasn't going to take my payment so I turned around and proceeded to walk out of the store. As I was walking away he yelled after me saying that he would send his guys out to get "HIS" merchandise and that there was no need to do business with me. I am truly disgusted because all of this was extremely unnecessary and has been since day one. I called the customer care number AGAIN and was told that I would get a call back and have not...meanwhile, the store guys keep calling me leaving nasty threatening messages. I am sick of the rough talk and threats. I am not returning the merchandise that I have paid so much money in to because someone doesn't like the fact that I don't like or appreciate harrassment and will not stand for it. I am filing a complaint with the BBB and taking any steps necessary to settle this. I will not have my hard earned money be a waste especially after all of the emotional distress that place has put me through from day #1!!!! They have a staff full of very rude employees and it's hard to do anything about it when it comes from the top down and they are being trained to be rude and obnoxious. Not once have I ever said that I would not pay them or anything like that and the only time that I have ever even gotten the least bit loud with them is telling them to stop calling me with "reminders" to pay my bill BEFORE the due date. I asked them "Do you need reminders to pay your bills? because I don't, I know what needs to be paid and when, and just like you, if a bill is due Saturday and you don't have the money until Monday, it can't be paid until Monday so stop calling me with reminders!!!". Their harassment is just appaling and I'm actually getting another migraine just thinking about all of this! If this ends up going to court, I am definitely going to sue them for severe emotional distress!!!

I have a laptop rented from Rent-A-Center. At first, the employees were nothing but nice. Then, there was a tornado to hit our town last April. We missed our first week because it was due the DAY the tornado hit and when we finally got out, tornado sirens went off. We were without power for about five days and had no phone for close to two weeks. The next week we went up and explained things to them. They understood, since they to were without power and unable to take payments. I thought "Well! This is a nice experience!"

A few months later we hit a snag with finances. I called and explained things to a gentleman who worked there. He snapped off that they have a policy that says you can't miss a payment if you've missed one in the past two months. This had been a good four or so months since April and we HADN'T missed a payment since then. I explained and he said that we had a history of missing payments. We had only missed the one. He said he would allow it this once, but not again.

Everyone has a week or so when they can't make a payment. It happens. They seemed to think that if you miss a payment you are some awful person. I switched jobs and had to wait two weeks to receive my first check. It was a necessary change, so I called and explained. They spoke in a very upset way, and acted like I was doing this on purpose. They asked where I was working, when I would be paid, and how often I could pay them. I told them, and when they asked for the number I refused to give them the number of where I worked specifically but gave them the main office's number. Apparently they called to make sure I was really an employee there.

I was deeply upset. Now, if you need to wait a week for a payment - such as a medical emergency - they give me this song and dance about how if I miss the payment I have to pay four weeks, or they take the computer back. They treat me like I'm a five year old.

Once, I took a late payment in and asked how much I had left to pay. She said "We aren't allowed to tell you until you have caught up on all your payments." They payment did catch me up. She said I owed 500 dollars. Then, about three months later I called back and she said I owed 400 dollars. I know there is interest, I accept that. But after that long I hoped I would be closer to paying the thing off!

i have had a similar experience.trust me its in everyone of their stores . they call me on my due date 5 and 6 times a day.

they threaten to come get their stuff evn though i only have a few months left to pay on it.they come to my house and bang on my doors if i am more than a day late on payments. will definately never be buying from them again.

Lying is standard policy

First and foremost I hate being lied to. I go in to rent a freezer and was told that it would about 20 minutes for approval. I decided to run errands and came back 2 hours later and the manager had not even bothered to work on my application. Apparently, I was not a high priority customers as he took care of customers that came after me. Secondly, I go in Monday to schedule a pickup for today at 1:00 pm At 2:10 pm I call in an the manager says they are busy are busy and back up and would not get to me till after 3:30pm. He said the girl told me between 1 and 3 which she did not. I am really getting sick of people lying to me to cover their own ***. I am the customer and they are treating me like dirt.

"Cop knocking my door"

I signed an agreement to make a certian number of payments in a certian amount of time. Rent A Center stuff, just a television.

I honored that contract almost in full but 2 payments. Meaning the cotract ran out before I could make last 2 payments. I made these 2 payments after the contract ran out plus like 30 bucks in late fees and they are trying to tell me that I still owe money on the television. I kept up with it and I usually dont tho but I did this tome and I dont see how for the life of me that they keep coming by my house beating on the door, not knocking but beating.

I traded that tv in one time and they couldnt transfer the full amount over to the one I have now which means they made a ton of money just off of that. That was dumb and my fault for doing so. I am pissed because I way overpaid them already!! Im not talking about the way they rip you if you honor a full contract like I did but the way they keep telling me that I owe more.

Threatening letters and numerous phone calls. The thing is that, I know my rights in this state and there aint jack *** they can do about it. They had the nerve to demand for the tv back after I paid almost two thousand dollars for a 900 dollar tv, which again, is my fault. Just because I made the last 2 payments late they think they can scare me with these letters with all these lawyer type terms in them.

If they couldve got the cops out here to get there (mine now) tv back, they wouldve already done it. Im the one who should have never rented to own to begin withbut they have no legal right to bully me and harrass me. The next time they beat on my door, Ima go out the back door and confront them and DARE them to something. Like I said, if they coulda had the police out here, they wouldve already done it.

There is no way in *** I will give them that tv back. Absolutely no way!!! And they think Im gonna be frightened into giving it back??? LOL!!

They must not know me.

If I'd only made 3 payments, I get it then but honoring the full amount of payments?? I dont get it.

You do not need his account number to fix this problem. He does not need to contact anyone....YOU should give better customer service by having him contact you....not some idiotic customer service line.

YOU should offer to fix the issue not pass the buck. That's why he is complaining, because your company gives lousy customer service!

Bad experience at rent a center

I'm a renter at rent a center, when i first walked there they gave me a warmed welcome because they wanted to do buissiness ....i rented from them and wanted to keep the item i was paying weekly ,until last time i had a problem with the bank there was an unauthorized transaction through my account and they were investigated it, and i called rent a center to let them know about it ,there was this drama queen who picked up the phone she have no consumer service skills and she is so unprofessional ,she was screaming at me over the phone just like she was talking to her daughter, if you rented at rent a center located at Montgomery village MD you might know her because i believe she is the only female working there...i was so mad and wanted To returned the item right away too bad, i had to go to work i did not have time...when i asked to talked to the manager she played to be the manager and i still i remembered her voice and i asked her why exactly was she doing that?she said the manager can't come to the phone right now...i will never refer anyone there...

Rent a center sucks

If you rent from here you know it sucks I use to work for them they bully the *** out of people for 90 day then stop and the *** is yours even if you don't pay they send fake letters to you from a fake lawyers office it's a joke then they just stop after 90 days trust me I know and they call every day tring to sell you *** you don't want they make you follow everyone who comes in around the store like they are going to rob the place it's a big joke!!!! HELP HELP HELP!

IVE CALLED THE CORP.OFFICE IN TEXAS SEVERL TIMES AND SHOCKER NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE AND THIS IS STILL GOING ON.THIS IS WHAT IS HAPPENING IVE BEEN RENTING FROM DEE HAMMOND AT THE HOPKINSVILLE STORE FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND HER HUSBAND IS ALWAYS AT THE STORE .HE EVEN CALLS CREDIT AS HE HAS CALLED IT BUT ENOUGH IS ENOUGH IS ANYONE GOING TO STOP THIS HE SHOULDNT EVEN BEEN IN THE STORE EVERYDAY!I HAVE SAID TO DEE WHY IS HE IN THE STORES PERSONELL INFORMATION,OUR INFO THATS NOT RIGHT HER RESPONSE WAS OH BILLY HELPS OUT SOMETIME AND SHE JUST SMILED IN MY FACE.PLEASE PUT A STOP TO THIS

ive rented from dee at the hopkinsville ky store for years and she has always had her husband bill in the store she says he helps here out sometimes.1st of all he doesnt work for rentacenter that i know of and should not be allowed to be in the computers calling people.2nd the things she knows and lets her staff get away withis crazy,she knows they sit in the rentacenter truck while on there lunch and smokes pot ive seen mrs. stewart and several of her employees over the years doing this.all anyone at there mail office would have to do to prove this is drug test them.

I can't understand why there is no reply from a RAC employee saying they are sorry that D.Hammond's husband is on the computer in the customer's personal information. Does RAC not have to follow laws on the privacy act of customer's personal information.

Is there not a 800 number to help resolve this matter? Maybe a call to the BBB or to local law enforcement to drop a dime on the crime.

Rent A Center scare tactics

I signed a 1 year lease on a 60 inch Toshiba LCD TV. Contract was 52 payments of around $38.00.

With 2 payments left only, I lost my job and had to wait on unemployment to kick in before I could make the final 2 payments. Well, during this waiting period they sent me a letter stating that my contract was up. I let a week or so go by then I contacted the store and maid those 2 final payments. Much to my dismay, they said I still owed more payments on my TV.

How is that possible?? Just because I was late with the last 2 payments they are trying to punish me and add all these crazy fees and for what?? I made the payments plus 2 late fees, so therfore, they got their money and then some. Just because the computer program they use automatically charges outrageous late fees and/or whatever, is not my fault!!

I honored the cotract by paying in full for 52 weeks at $38.00!! So..., why are they still hounding me and my wife for more money?? Yea, it's my fault for going to a rent-to-own place and I knew I would way overpay for the item but at the time, it's what I had to do. They think they can scare me by knocking on my front and back door at the same time and by the way....they knock real, real loud.

One day they are gonna rub me wrong and *** off more that they can chew because it's really starting to *** me off. Not a threat but a promise that if they continue, I will show my *** like never before. They send these thugged out looking guys and try to intimidate me. Little do they kow..., I'm 6'6" and 250 pounds of solid 100% man.

My wife beggs me not to go out but one day, I will. No need to worry tho, I'm sure they'd love for me to put my hands on them so that would give them a reason to get local law emforcement involved but I'm crazy as *** but not dumb/*** in any way.

I would definately scare the *** out of them for sure without laying a hand on them!! Nuff said.

not paying on time is not adhering to your to your contractual obligations lol, and the worse thing about your arrogant ranting of telling the world your not responsible is wanting to fight someone at because they are trying to do their job. if u didn\'t pay you didn\'t pay grow up, get real finish your contract or at least talk to the store mgr he or she will print all your payments receipts.

and figure out why it isn\'t finish, and be a wise, think... those employees can quit and you know nothing about them but i am pretty sure you filled out a form and told them everything about you, yea you might win the fight you might not but you probably told them where your relatives live and everything on the order forms and they know where you live...all that drama over home much $? THAT *** IS ***!

If you have all the receipts and the contract then you are fine if not then you are screwed. The late fee is only 5 dollars for each miss payment.

Sorry, but no one NEEDS a 60 inch flat screen. The fact that you got it from a rent to own place makes it pretty obvious that you couldn't afford it. Live within your means and you won't have this issue.

It's so funny how some people think that just because you are purchasing goods from a Rent To Own center you are automatically broke. I make upwards of $80,000 a year and I purchase goods from places like Rent A Center And Aarons frequently simply to avoid dropping large sums of money all at once, this allows me to invest the extra money I would have spent all at once on new ventures.

I am aware that there are steep interest charges but that is not the case if you pay the total MSRP before 90 days. I live well within my means and over 50% of my electronics and furniture were purchased at RAC and Aarons. I love saving a little money paying half the price of a 72 inch LED TV and paying the next half the next month or maybe the month after. Simply because I can "Afford" to go out and purchase nearly anything off the shelf of ANY department store or large retail chain like walmart does not mean I should.

If more people were smarter with their money like me Global debt would cease to exist. Nuff said :P

Told me I owed wrong amt money

wanted to pay 400 dollars on my account and she told me i owed 430 and took 399 off my card then said i owe 90 instead of 30 and i am livid , waiting for manager to call me, this is elder abuse and lying to a handicapped elder person causing severe anxiety and stress, will call atorney generals and elder abuse hot line if not taken care of asap Marie is the person I spoke to and kent is the manager on Bell and 7th in phoenix, they have not been honest and stuck to what they have told me..

Rent a Center, Not Worry Free

I have puchased and paid off several things from Rent A Center over the years. Now the Cincinnati,Ohio,(Norwood) location is under new management. They got rid of all the previous employees. The employees that they have now are unexceptable. This new management team is rude, they start calling you 3 to 4 days before you are due to pay to keep reminding you to pay. Then someone else will call to advertise and beg you to buy more stuff. I have had weeks were they call me 4 to 5 times in one day. If you do not answer they just sit and call you back to back. One day I sat to see how many times they were going to call without leaving a message. It was 10 times on a Thursday and I am due on Saturdays. Then this new manager called me one day while I was getting Dialysis treatment at the hoapital 4 times. I finally answered and told him he could pick the appliance up on Monday after I clean it out. He sent someone to my house twice that very day which was a Saturday. They just poped up twice when they wanted to and got mad because I was not at home. I am so pissed and agravated with Rent A Center that I will never ever use them again and will never refer anyone to this company.

Hi – I work at RAC and I’m very sorry to hear about your experience. It is against Rent-A-Center's policies to harass customers or others by calling repeatedly when the customer is unavailable to speak.

Please call our Customer Care line at 1-80*-***-**** so that they can get some more information about this and try to help as soon as possible.

I know it’s one more step to take, but giving Customer Care your feedback is the best way for issues like this to be addressed in a timely manner. Hope this helps.

Dont shop at RENT A CENTER

well rent a center did contact me back and gave me 50.00 back off my return but that still doesnt fix the issue that was going on with my stuff. i did wind up going to aarons and got a better w&d at a cheaper price and it works great and rac will never get my business nor my familys ither ever again.

WE GOT A WAHER AND DYER BACK HERE IN JUNE 2012 AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD FIX THE DYER AFTER THE DELEIVERY GUY BROKE IT AND WE HAVE HAD IT UNTILL TODAY 8/23/12 AND ASKED IF THEY WOULD COME GET IT AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD GET IT ON THE 27TH WHEN THE PAYMENT WAS DUE ON THE 1ST OF SEPTEMBER. THEY KNEW THE GUY HAD BROKEN THE DYER AND WAS NOT GONNA FIX IT AND WE WERE NOT TOLD ABOUT THE 100% MONEY BACK THEY TOLD US THAT IS ONLY FOR 7 DAYS AND THAT WAS TOLD TODAY. DO NOT GET ANYTHING FROM THESE PEOPLE AT ALL. THE PRICES ARE TO HIGH AND AARON'S CAN BEAT THERE PRICES BY A LONG SHOT AND WILL GURANTEE THERE STUFF. SO EVERYONE OUT THERE DO NOT DEAL WITH RENT A CENTER IN MANCHESTER TENNESSEE CAUSE THERE FULL OF *** AND WILL GIVE YOU BROKEN IDEAS AND WILL NOT FIX THEM EITHER.

Simple, tell them to pick up the washer and dryer. Have the phone call recorded for your protection.

Also when they deliver or pick something up make sure you record them.

I am so glad that I did this. It was so funny when they tried to deny that they didnt do no wrong.

Hi – I work at RAC and I’m so sorry to hear about the customer service you’ve received. Service and maintenance is always included at no extra charge as part of the Worry-Free Guarantee.

So if an item breaks because of any kind of manufacturing defect, we’ll repair it quickly and at no extra cost.

Since you’ve had problems arranging your replacement dryer, I think it’s probably a good idea to get in touch with Customer Care at 1-80*-***-**** and let them know your situation. Hope this helps!

Im looking to rent a home computer so im reading these reviews. I can totally understand someone being mad about broken things they are paying on but all these people are mad mostly because they missed a payment and still want the keep the stuff instead of returning it.

If I did that to my landlord or electric company id be in the dark or homeless. Im starting to feel bad for rac employees good grief people pay your bills or give stuff back :upset

Rent a center has done nothing but rip me off

Th rent a center here in muncie indiana has done nothing butt take my money and sold me a stereo that dose not work. During t tie i was making payments on it they had it more than m for repairs. They didn't even send it off. It set I n there back room until i paid it off. I had it paid off for 3 weeks before they retuned it they lost one of my speakers starte yelling at me when i would call and ask about it tried to sell me another receiver that wasn't even half the quality of my original one for 363.00. A month after i finally got mine back it quit working. I've had nothing but bad come from this store in muncie indiana. If i had the money i spent on this stereo i could buy a brand new one that would last more than a month

Rent a center ripp off

they harrass you more than bill collectors i say fukkk them my cousin told me that they cant take you to court in ny state esp if u payed 2/3 of the item so if i was any one reading this dont pay them they charge you triple for poor quality items. they call u sweetie like they know u instead of your name they keep calling u and keep calling i always curse them out and i really dont care when they come to my house i lock the door on them they cant come in if i dont let them sooooo fuckkk them!

I've dealt with them for over 2 years now. If they are calling you, it's because you are past due.

If they are coming to your house, it's because you are waaaaay past due. It's real simple if you learn to play by the rules. First time they call explain why you are late and when you will be able to pay. Sometimes they will give you free time to help you out.

If they say they can't wait that long, let them pick it up. You can get it back the very next day (if you can pay a week at that time) and all of your late fees and past due payments are wiped out. This can also help you because you get credit for what you already paid in and your 90 day cash price starts over with less to pay than you started out with the first time. Once I learned how to play the game, I can use their own rules to help me.

I've talked to them enough to know that people like you that just think they can stop paying and not return the stuff are the reason they are not so friendly when you get waaay past due, because it IS so easy. Quit stealing and grow up.

You sign a contract and it is a rent to own item until you pay it off. They might not take you to court but they can get you thrown in the jail for stealing.

I seen it done plenty of times and I hate Rent A Center. I guess you don't care for having a record which I am sure with your attuide you already have a record.

Yes, it's true that them calling all the time is annoying. However, if you rent something from them, you should pay for it and then they won't be calling you!
