The following is part of a hour long Interview with an ex-employee of Rent-A-Center: Yes i changed his name: Henry 10:14 am 4/25/06

Zero; how long did you worked for RAC?

Henry: about four years.

Zero: why did you leave?

Henry: got a better job, just got tired of the BS I guess.

Zero: have you ever seen another employee being rude to a costumer?

Henry: sure all the time, were nice to them till we have a disagreement then we can use anything we want to get them to pay or get the merchandise back.

Zero: did you ever see payment dates changed?

Henry: seen it, done it.

Zero: why would you do it?

Henry: anyone of a hundred reasons. Could be as simple as I don't like you. Or maybe were told to up the stores numbers buy adding late fees.

Zero: did you ever hear of an employee using a costumer's personnel info for there own reasons?

Henry: you mean like hot girls?

Zero: yea

Henry: my favorite sport.

Zero: what about personnel stuff that is left on rented computers that is recovered?

Henry: nude photos, bank account numbers, phone number's seen it, kept it, used it.

Zero: if you don't like someone what else could you do?

Henry: my god the list is endless. My favorite was when we recovered something, after we get back at the store is to kick the *** out of it and say that's how it was when we picked it up. Or in the case of a laptop that this girl shoved in my face on her porch I just kept it and told the manger she never answered the door. She ended up paying for it.

Zero: that never bothered you?

Henry: f#@% no, f%#* the ***.

Zero: if you could give RAC customers some evince what would it be?

Henry: take pictures of your stuff as there picking it up, it also helps to have a camera with date and time stamp. And for god sakes get a recite when they pick your stuff up. But the best thing is don't rent from them!

Rent a center completely ran my husband into the ground. He has so many health problems from lifting ridiculous items with little to no help.

Years and years of morning to night shifts has completely drained him of his life. He no longer works for the company but is now battling depression. His weight went to *** because there really wasn't enough time to fit in the small healthy meals only one really quick junkie "get fat quick" meal. His boss was forever threatening to take away his only day off (Sunday's are obviously not included on this) because his store's numbers were down.

His boss was forever coming into work hungover and would just sleep in his office all day.

When we got married, we actually had to postpone the wedding several times with very short notice because his boss would tell him a week before the wedding that if he didn't come in that day, he would be fired. I could go on and on about the stories I heard, but I think the original context of this thread explains it a little.

i have been working for RAC for awhile now and you sir should be in jail many times over.

I am the spouse of an employee, he has worked at this company for 10 years. The horrible mistreatment this job brings is mind blowing.

You will worry about your job non stop, be grossly underpaid, have no time for family, watch younger employees be promoted and end up doing several people's jobs just to keep your own, have what they call "working lunches", never have a saturday off... ever. Unless christmas falls on a saturday that is. Be consistently put under new managers that you have to train to do his/her job, be made to pick up the slack when another employee cant lift or move furniture, be expected of impossible daily tasks, deal with childish bullying and belittling...

the list goes on and never stops. The employees do not get commission so next time you blame one of the front employees, please remember that they are working to have a place for their family to live, and food on their table. They are told what to do by their employers. This is by far, the WORST company to work for, but if youve been there for 10 years, and have a family to support, you really dont have much of a choice.

When you have a DM and a Regional that makes one bad hiring decision after the other, and youre left holding the bag because you have no choice but to do all of their jobs just to keep yours, you have nobody to go to for help. They will cover their own butts rather than fix the issue just to prevent them from looking bad.

It is rediculous what the dm and regionals get away with. So fed up.

Seems that if you work for the Corporation for over 10 years and haven't been promoted, there's something really wrong. Either there's some affirmative action related reason or there's some lies about how long he really worked there.

Rent a Center promotes from within 90% of the time and the company his a high turnover rate.

the average time put in before being promoted to DM is 2-4 years with good sales and credit clearing. We live by "coach em up or coach em out" and I'm curious to know why he wasn't coached out..

Now as amn employee of Acceptance Now; formerly RAC Acceptance, I can disagree with that- in less than a year I have seen one promotion from within and 4 lateral from outside to positions of district managers. promote from within is what they say until it suits them then they say "new blood". Garbage it is all political and from the top down CYA is the job of the day.

My boyfriend is a DM for Rent a Center he has been with the company well over ten years. Sorry don't want to get to personal with the info of who I am.

He has been a DM now for a couple of years and just this morning he called me and said I hate my job and I think because my stores are slipping they are gonna fire me. After all my years, all the time lost with my family and my life, and dedication to this place and I think they are gonna fire me because my numbers are slipping for the last few weeks. I was thinking wow finally you see what I have seen for years now. They don't care about you at all they will spend thousands on two day hotel stays for them to sit in a war room and take phone calls but yet they cant afford to give a raise to the working mom or dad who is there 60 hours a week or more of there life.

They fire hard working employees just because there numbers slipped in there store for a week or two. He has to go fire someone this Monday because his numberS went down a few weeks ago. But my BF (we will call him Steve) Steve thinks the guy works hard and shouldn't lose his job so Steve stepped in and talked about not firing him just demoting him so they are gonna offer him a Asst. Mang spot that is a hour away from the store he has now.

This nice man has also been with the company for many years. I went to Steve's office the other day to bring him lunch which is located in one of his stores. When I walked in he was standing in the store talking to one of his employees, and I over heard her say that her daughter hasn't been getting home till after 9 pm every night. At this point I am listening.

Come to find out her daughter is a manager of a Rent a Center in another district. She then explained that the DM in that district was making them stay till 9 every night because there numbers were just a little off and had been making them do it every night for two weeks. Btw Rent a Center closes at 7 and employees can leave when they got all there closing stuff done which you should be out of there by 8. Her daughter has three kids and already devotes way to much time to Rent a Center, do you think they give a *** that no one in your family ever sees you, trust me they don't.

I dont think they give a *** about there employees at all. I have seen over the years they fire people who have been busting there *** and dedicating a lot of there lives to there job. Its a shame they base everything on numbers. My BF has lost a lot of time with his family.

I have watched him sit there till 3 am working on the laptop, I have watched sit there and work on the phone instead of having fun on his time off, I have watched him go on vacation and still work. I hope everyone reads this message this is a sorry place to work. They want people to live to work instead of work to live then they fire you cause the times are bad and people are not spending money right now. I think if OWNER stop taking the DM's on unnecessary trips to things like war rooms where they drive hundreds of miles away from there families for 2 to 4 days at a time to sit in a room together and take phone calls for deliveries, maybe he could give people a raise and be able to hire a extra person or two in each store and let them poor employees work 40 hours a week and not 60 or 70.

Also maybe stop firing all the hard working employees just because a certain area isn't doing well for a few weeks. Anyways I will let you all know if they fire my BF. I hope he quits to be honest because I have seen all along what he is just seeing today. This place is the worst place I have ever seen to work in my life.

PLEASE DON'T WORK HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO NEVER SEE YOUR FAMILY AND LOSE YOUR JOB OVER A FEW BAD NUMBERS THEN THIS IS YOUR PLACE.

I AM SPEAKING FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE AND HOPE YOU ALL TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY CAUSE ITS THE TRUTH.

I read your story and I relate in many ways. I was a store manager for over 8 years and they demoted me because for 3 weeks my delivers dropped.

I quit a few years ago and I am so happy I did.

I went to Aaron's, they pay double and dont demand as much of your time. Dont work here it is a *** place to work.

You know, I'm hearing your story and I do understand, but as an ex employee of both Rent a Center and Rac Acceptance, I can tell you the only reason numbers would be down is if the employees are cutting corners. The system we are given to make sales and clear credit is foolproof if properly followed.

I have tested it every which way and every time I have ever in 3 years committed to following the program, it has worked, no matter what store I ran in what area of town with however high or low BOR!!! Since you are married to someone who was there for a lot of years, you know the basic daily duties of calling past due accounts twice a day and using the tools given to get new accounts booked. The reason most fail at this is because after a few weeks or months, the calls get monotonous and the employee decided that these customers aren't going to answer and the employee starts filing most of their calls in the computer system as if they were made when the number was never really dialed.

That is the PRIMARY reason customers payments aren't made on time and if the employee were actually making that customers phone ring twice a day and their references and jobs are being called daily until told otherwise, the payment would be made and weekly closing numbers would be 10.9 3.9 or lower. If the employees were ACTUALLY making telemarketing calls, passing our flyers, and making daily progress in their sales skills by whatever outside means necessary, sales would go up.

Maybe if the employees stopped fondling their smartphones, making small talk with co workers, pencil whipping calls and waiting for every sale to approach them, and started making full call-throughs twice a day and utilizing all the sales tools given, the numbers would sparkle and your husband would have been given quarterly raises until he was promoted 3 years later and bringing in $90,000 a year.

I worked at RAC for a year as a CAR. And I'll tell you what a load of ***.

First I had to restock the showroom, then make credit calls, then do all delivery's and pick ups, then run down dumb *** people who don't pay, then make more credit calls. But if I wasn't back by 5 to do the second call thru I got yelled at my route bad a 290 BOR I always closed credit every Saturday below 5.9. I was told over and over I was getting promoted took the manager test and all. Then I start complaining about not being able to everything with all the deliveries and all the pickup running both routes on Saturday morning within 3hours and meet my sales quota every week so they fired me after I worked 65-70 hours a week sometimes till 10 pm and that's the thanks I get.

Personally I can't stand RAC employees now they are all a bunch of two faced little *** with issues anyone who don't last there is either because they are lazy or like me they worked their *** off for nothing in return no appreciation or recognition. Oh wow I got CAR of the week all the time but some lil *** comes in works two weeks and just cuz he gets to stay in the store all the time cuz he can't drive he wins a sales contest and wins 1000$ u think they ever did *** for me *** no

BTW my names Andrew I worked at the vidalia Georgia store 1906 I'm not afraid of letting people know

Wow whoever that ex employee was clearly a piece of *** loser who didn't like his job. It just goes to show you how dumb some people really are and straight out dirrrrrty!

Good you got tired of the *** so hopefully you don't steal anyone else's information.

I've worked for several rental companies and I've never worked with anyone like this "Henry" guy, good thing too because I probably would have got him fired and then told his new employer why he got.fired. :(

I have been a rent a center customer for at least 4 years now...I have to say I love the store I started my purchases with but I followed the sales guy that started my first sell...also moved out of the area and still rent from that location. I went there originally due to bad credit from my divorce and also they were the only place that had what I was looking for as an xmas gift for my boys.

I know they have high prices but low weekly, bi weekly or monthly options to pay. Plus it is and has been 90 days same as cash value. Also there have been times when things have came up or life happens and i couldn't make the payment and my sales rep has worked with me everystep of the way...only one time I had to return my items but only to get them back a couple of weeks later (same items too, see they hold on to your stuff for 30 days) and picked up right where I left off. I have only took back a couple of things due to varies reasons.

I have nothing but great things to say about RENT A CENTER. Majority of my home furnishings is a RENT A CENTER Product...And another great thing is my 2nd hubby was so impressed with this company he applied and got a job with RENT A CENTER.

I think is awesome especially because there is still a high uneployment in our area and this company is still flourishing...Impressive if you ask me...So I just want to say thanks to RENT A CENTER in the Central Valley in California...I would say names and stores but I don't know if that is allowed...Thanks Again!! from one of your most satisfied Customer that you have treated like family!!!

This is hilarious! I too am from the central valley by the way, and i'm a credit manager.

I'm incharge of the collections for my store, been here for 5 years, usually the only reason why people gripe about rent a center harrassing them is because they're people that blow their money instead of taking care of their bills. You can get stuff for a decent price at RAC but ONLY if you buy it within the 90 days they give you, if you can't you should just return it before the first 16 weeks to get all of your credit! Don't just return it, have them hold it for up to 30 days so you can get back on your feet! If you go get the same item back out within the 30 days you get all of your credit you put towards it as long as you've paid only 16 weeks or less on it, then when you get it back out you start your 90 days over!

It isn't rocket science, just ask the employees, they're happy to explain it to you. We aren't there to make your life hard, the truth is, it's the customers that make it *** for us! It's very stressful trying to collect from worthless people who can't take care of their obligations. Me and my coworkers are very friendly to those that give respect.

Why would we respect someone and be kind to someone who's constantly dodging us or just being an *** over the phone? Just make it easy for everyone and pay your bill!
