I live in Woonsocket Ri and I deal with the rent a center on diamond hill rd. I rented a pair of beats headphones from them and before I could make the first payment they got stolen.

I filed a police report and showed the report to the store. I still made two payments of 86 dollars because I did feel bad. But I'm disabled and can't afford to pay them like 700 that they want for a pair of 200 headphones.

So ever since I told them this they have been harassing and threatening me and my family. I will never rent anything again from anywhere!

Reason of review: Problems with payment.

Listen, this customer signed a contract, a.k.a. - a LAW ABIDING AGREEMENT, stating that they (the customer) would pay off the merchandise in a specific amount of time.

As difficult as this concept may be to fathom, a word which here means, "understand after much deep thought", they are still liable for these payments regardless of theft, robbery, or falls - as clearly stated in their rental agreement. In addition, the 700 dollars Rent-a-Center "like...wants them to pay" is not one lump sum, but is in fact, many small payments made over a long period of time (in many cases 12-24 months) - as per the rental order agreement the customer signed and ultimately agreed with. If they (the customer) wanted to buy the headphones (BEATS) for the alleged flat market market price of 200 dollars, they should have straight up bought them for the FLAT *** MARKET PRICE of 200 DOLLARS from the their nearest local retailer, but they couldn't afford that. Furthermore, the "harassing" calls they received, are no more than 2 calls per day, as per Rent-a-Center policy.

Also (side note) Rent-a-Center does not pay their employees enough make them excessively "harass" or "threaten" ANY customer.

EVER. Give me a *** break...make your payments.

Yeah, ok, if you think Rent A Centers employee's follow a protocol of only two phone calls per day then you are probably working for RAC yourself. When a customers account becomes past due they are to use high pressure collection methods in which they call the applicants and their references, along with stopping by the persons house to attempt to retain back their merchandise.

Also if the customer did file a actual police report and had the optional LDW insurance that Rent A Center sells to it's customers then by law he or she isn't required to pay back the amount of the item that was stolen.

However, their Benefits Plus Department and LDW departments are two different companies outside of the Rent A Center Corporation that they use. That is the catch 22 to Rent A Center. Rent A Center submits the claim to them or tells the customer to submit the claim to them. Good luck in getting those approved too because their insurance department usually denies 97% of the claims that they have go through them.

Sure the customer above signed a agreement, but 97% the time Rent A Center doesn't follow their own agreement contract as signed by both parties.

They have attorneys in each state that work with certain judges that will sign off on civil judgements left and right all day long, even if the consumer is right.

The best thing to do is stay far away from these rental companies as they charge three times the amount for items as what they cost and they put a absolute astronomical absurd fair market value on their products when getting them bonded from Travelers Insurance Company.

They market 3 year old LED Televisions at over $3,000.

For the price you pay you can go by probably 3 or more of the same item and still come out cheaper.

OK so they got stolen, but then you say you can't afford to pay $700 for $200 headphones which you would have had to pay were they not stolen. Nobody cares if you are disabled when it comes to paying for stuff YOU wanted. Stop buying stuff on credit that you can't afford and grow up.

If you go to ripoffreport.com, you hear this kind of stuff all the time- "I am disabled and..." "But then I got sick and...." "But I got laid off and...." "But I was only two days late and they started harrassing me...." "My kids needed milk so...." and on and on and on. The endless whine of the bad credit risk.

This guy agreed to pay a certain price for headphones, but because they got stolen, he suddenly can't afford to pay for them....makes no sense.

The thief didn't steal his money. He just wants to make it the store's problem.

Buying on high interest credit. Most states are trying to abolish the astronomical interest rates at over 300% they charge customers because they know most customers won't be able to pay it off.

They will then reposes the items and resell them to someone else at the same price they were charging the original customers for it. It is a win, win for Rent A Center, because the customer will have legal paid over the actual value and cost for the item and they will charge the new customer that purchases the used item the same price.
